DATE: Thursday, December 1
TIME: 3:00pm - 5:00pm
ROOM: Capitol Room, Marriott Wardman Park Hotel

If you're writing for the public or want to get your research covered responsibly, come prepared to talk with science writers and media anthropologists about maximizing your communication goals.

At this workshop you'll share strategies and best practices with anthropologists and media professionals who've worked successfully to communicate anthropology to a general audience.

Suggested topics for open discussion:

o How do editors decide what science stories to publish?

o Who makes the decisions about running anthropology news items?

o Does the media cover anthropology in a responsible manner?

o Communications between anthropologists and media are often fraught with tension, as the goals and audiences for both diverge sharply.

o Come prepared to talk openly about the conflicts, shared interests, and challenges of communicating what we do directly with those writing the stories
